I think Rug Hooking is the best hobby in the world!
And I should know, because when it comes to fiber arts, I have just about tried them all. I enjoy most of them, too, but until I discovered Rug Hooking, they were all wonderful hobbies, not life long passions. That all changed about 10 years ago when I stumbled into a local antique store and saw Rug Hooking for the first time. After my first class (which was a small black cat pin), I went home and immediately designed my first rug and I've been hooking and designing ever since.
I'm Christa and I call Houston, Texas home. My husband, Jerry, and I have a wonderful son, Parker, who is currently 6 going on whatever age takes over the world. Art is an important in our home and everyone is involved in something fun and creative daily. We are also big ice cream connoisseurs and I am on a constant search to find the perfect pizza.
I graduated with my BFA from the University of Montevallo in 2001. My concentration was ceramics, but small minded HOA’s frown on pit firing in your backyard, so I am unable to pursue that anymore. What I loved most about ceramics was the meditation when I was throwing and the surface design. I find that hooking combines those as well. I get to zone out and enjoy the act of hooking and also create beautiful surfaces and textures with my wool.
In 2015, I completed my McGown Certification and can now call myself a McGown Certified Rug Hooking Instructor. I love the workshops because they provide me with the opportunity for continuing education in the rug hooking field. The wonderful people I have met are so encouraging and inspiring.
